When China and Russia political leaders gather these days, the outlook is almost always buoyant. Just in June, China President Xi Jinping bestowed China’s first “friendship medal” upon Vladimir Putin. What about the attention given to China and Asia by Russian private-sector entrepreneurs?
It hasn’t been so warm. “There’s been a focus on Western countries, and, within Russia, everyone looks to Moscow,” says Egor Pereverzev, managing director (China) of Russian electric switchgear distributor EKF. There are two heads on the eagle that appears on Russia’s coat of arms, he continued: one head represents Russia looking to the West and the other looks to the East. “The one looking to the East is blind” to good business promise in Asia, he chuckles.(Read more…)
