Moscow is starting to see substantial promotions for Brookes Moscow, to find out what this is all about we interviewed Charley King the Founding Head of Brookes Moscow.
Mr. King, we are starting to see many promotions for Brookes, please explain what this company does and what are your plans for Moscow?
Brookes are entering the education market, September 2018 in Moscow, to offer premium international education to all; local Russian children and Expatriates living and working in Moscow. We, at Brookes Moscow, will be part of a growing network of global schools, owned by Brookes Education Group. There are six sister schools in the US, UK, South Korea, India and two in Canada; with plans to expand this year and next into the Ukraine, Austria and Oman.
So you are creating a new International School in Moscow, that is quite a large undertaking where is this school and who are your partners?
Our new school, Brookes Moscow, will be situated in the beautiful and stunning area of the Botanical Gardens. Here, nestled next to the river and in between two purpose built residences, Brookes Moscow finds itself in the perfect location; next to the Metro, 15 minutes from Red Square and a very short car ride to the international airport of Sheremetyevo. Our school is partnered in the build by the leading construction group Pioneer (www.pioneer.ru) who have vast experience in both Moscow and St. Petersburg. Pioneer are ensuring that the highest of build and facility standards are met for the children we will educate.
So it will be a new International School what facilities will be offered?
We shall be offering premium facilities at Brookes Moscow. These will include no less than: two swimming pools, art studios, professional ballet studio, rooftop football pitch, scientific learning laboratories, parent café, full dining facilities, medical centre, early years outdoor learning environments, basketball courts, sports hall and parent balcony, running track, martial arts hall, design technology rooms, dark room, textiles and home economics labs & wide expansive classrooms. There will be local bus services to and from specific pick up points in Moscow, such as the villages of Rosinka/Angelovo, central Moscow and Novie Veshki. We will ensure that all children have either Macbooks or iPads as part of their equipment during the day; lockable lockers and a full school uniform and PE kit.
Most important for most parents are the academic emphasis and tuition levels that you will be incorporating. Could you explain?
Our school, as in Anglo-American School, Moscow, will be offering the exclusive International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. This will be split into 3 sections: Primary Years Programme (Reception-Year 6) Middle Years Programme (Year 7-11) and the Diploma Programme (Years 12 & 13) Upon opening the school in September 2018, we will be a candidate IB School. This means that we will be able to offer education from Pre-Nursery (Age 2) all the way through and including Year 10. Once we are fully registered, our first year of the Diploma Programme will be 2020.
Alongside this, we want to be able to support the Russian Programme. This means that instead of running a dual programme during school (which weakens the emphasis on the IB) we will offer tutorage in the Russian Programme after school and at weekends, upon demand by Russian families. We will also be able to assist with the tutors employed, and the examination centres the children can undertake their Russian examinations in.
As an International School working on a worldwide recognised curriculum, what advantages does this offer to the children for their futures?
The advantages of working within our International School, which not only offers the IB Curriculum, but also one that recognises and supports the importance of the Russian programme, will no doubt, offer an advantage to children who attend. The range of subjects and inquiry based learning, alongside the extra-curricular activities programme, global exchange to other schools, and also residential trips, means that children will have a distinct advantage over attendance in other International establishments or local schools.
Furthermore, and most importantly, Brookes Education Group already has a distinct and highly respectable leavers portfolio and university entrance. Amongst many others, these include top universities in the UK and US such as: Kings College and University College, London; John Moores University, Liverpool; University of Toronto; American University; University of California; and the University of Sydney.
Now that six leading universities in Moscow, such as the well-established MSU, are also accepting foreign and local Russian children with the IB as their qualification, we are developing close links with each one to establish a continuity of education for the children, here in Moscow.
It is also our intention to consider long term, the implementation of the IB Careers Related Programme.
Thank you Mr King we wish you great success with your project and look forward to keeping our readers up-to-date with your developments.
